Staunton, Virginia



1) The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library houses Woodrow Wilson materials from during and immediately after his lifetime, as well as memoirs of those who worked with him, and governmental volumes concerning World War I.

The Woodrow Wilson Birthplace is referred to as The Manse, which is the name of a Presbyterian minister's home. The Manse was constructed in 1846 by the Staunton First Presbyterian Church. The Wilson family moved into the house in 1855. Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in what is now called the "birth room" on December 28, 1856.

2) Staunton National Cemetery is located in the Shenandoah Valley approximately one mile east of downtown Staunton, Va.

The 1.15-acre plot of land was designated a national cemetery in September 1868. Original interments were the remains removed from the city cemetery at Staunton as well as Cross Keys, Port Republic, and the Waynesboro area. Of the original 749 interments, 518 were unknown.

Staunton National Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
