Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a one-room log cabin in LaRue County, Kentucky in a town now known as Hodgenville. Lincoln was named after his dead grandfather, who died in 1786 when he was ambushed and shot by an Indian while clearing a field.
