An exceedingly affluent suburb of The Hague, Wassenaar is the second most prosperous municipality in the Netherlands. Wassenaar lies 10 km north of The Hague near the North Sea coast.
From September 1944 to March 1945 Wassenaar was one of the launching sites used by the German Luftwaffe, commanded by SS General Hans Kammler for the V-2 rockets directed mainly towards London.
